| Well, about 2 years ago (it felt like 3-4 since I was on here) I gave up on xanga because I'm in China and they kept blocking it. With a proxy I could write but I could never see if I had any comments, etc. and yeah, it lost it's edge.I just downloaded ultravpn and thought I'd give xanga another try and it works! So, how to update you all on the past 2 years. I got married May 10, 2008, quit my job at the hospital 3 months ago, have a skinny cat named Momo and gained about 20 pounds. Xanga is a little more complicated than it used to be... I'm going to go have a look around. | | |
| Yes, I don't believe it either. Um, why didn't i rub this in before...??? I just found out! Imogen Heap is playing tonight at midi festival at 8pm and I'm going to be right up front singing along.
I was planning to leave work a little early to head over to see some random bands and well as our friend's band but now I'm sitting here, sweating (it's hot in my office) and getting all nervous. I can't work, I can't do anything so I think I'm going to leave 2 hours early and head over so I can just be in the area... I hope she actually comes unlike pretty girls make graves who ended up not coming (something about not getting visas but who knows). Shit, I can't write any more. I need to get out of here! Will post pictures on www.flickr.com/photos/sarahvoss SOON! | | |
| Note: The following only applies to Sino-foreign marriages. Local-level marriage registration offices are the governmental bodies responsible for legally uniting Chinese nationals under Chinese law.
Step 1: Submit the required documents
The Sino-foreign couple must go together, in person to the appropriate marriage registration office and submit a completed marriage registration application form (available at the marriage registration office). The appropriate marriage registration office will be the one in the jurisdiction in which the Chinese partner is registered (the location of the hukou).
Together with the application form, the couple must submit a number of other documents:
Chinese Partner
(1) A certificate of marriageability
(2) A certificate of birth
(3) Household registration book (hukou)
(4) A health certificate (obtainable from a regional-level local hospital)
(5) A letter from the parents of the Chinese partner giving permission for their child to marry a foreigner (this letter should include the index fingerprint of both parents below their signatures and date)
Foreign Partner
(6) A current passport
(7) Chinese residence permit
(8) A health certificate from a local hospital designated by the marriage registration office
(9) Three photos of the marrying couple, taken together
(10) A registration fee
(11) A certificate of marriageability.
Item 11 requires further explanation. Basically, the marriage registration office needs a form from the foreign partner's home government stating he/she is not already married in his/her home country. Every foreign government has its own version of this type of form with its own requirements for obtaining one. Couples will need to check the embassy website of the foreign partner's home country in China for details on how to obtain this kind of certification. (Chinese translations must accompany foreign-language documents.)
Note: Application requirements may vary from office to office. When an individual visits the appropriate marriage registration office to pick up an application form and find out which local hospital(s) the foreign partner must receive a check-up at, he/she should also check to see if the office's requirements differ from those listed here.
Step 2: Wait for the good news
After the establishment of the new marriage law, it takes the marriage registration office about an hour or so to review the submitted documents and approve the application.
Step 3: Congratulations
Once the marriage registration office approves the application and registers the marriage, it will issue a marriage certificate to be picked up by the couple.

| massive forced abortion campaign is ongoing in China's Guangxi Province, according to China Aid Organization.
"One Christian lady, Ms. Linrong Wei, 7 months pregnant, was dragged into the hospital from her home on April 17 at 8:45 AM (Beijing time) by ten officials from the Population and Family Planning Commission in Baise City, Guangxi. Her husband Yage "James" Liang was formerly a pastor in the government-sanctioned TSPM church before he became a House church pastor a year ago," the CAA said.
CAA said it has eyewitness reports of 40 other pregnant women who were forcefully moved to the Youjiang District People's Hospital of Baise City on the same day to perform forced abortions.
Eyewitnesses told CAA that pastor Liang's wife was pregnant accidentally and they wanted to keep this baby because of Christian principles, said CAA, adding that "Ms. Wei was injected with medicine to induce birth at 11 AM on April 17."
"Ms. Wei's hospital bed number is No. 39. Eyewitnesses report that another woman, 9 months pregnant, on bed number 38 was also injected at 12 PM. One Church leader in that area who has visited Ms. Wei told CAA that these so-called 'illegal pregnant women' were treated so bad that they were just forced to lay down on the very simple beds in the hospital corridor before the injections were done," according to CAA.
The family planning officials told relatives of the women that their babies will be born and most likely die within 24 hours, said CAA, noting that House church leaders in Baise city are praying some babies can be born and survive before officials kill them.
CAA said it has also learned of the case of a Christian woman in Laiyang city, Shandong province is facing a forced abortion. Ms. Hui Xu, 39, became pregnant with her second child accidentally 6 months ago. She and her husband are now facing increasing pressure from the local family planning office to have abortion either voluntarily or coercively. Their home is at Fangyang Village, Tushan Town, Laiyang city, Shandong province, CAA said.

| I'm so tired. I've only worked 2 days since I got up to BJ, Thursday and Friday, but my apartment is having issues so for the last two days I have had the landlord and various handymen in and out. My landlord yells and I can't stand him. I really can't. The a/c has issues, the water in the bath tub doesn't go down (within an hour of showering), the wall is wet from a pipe leak behind the wall and mildew is growing, and the pipe under the sink in the kitchen drips. The landlord keeps implying it's my fault we can't get things fixed sooner because I'm never here. I'm like, I work, damnit. I can't just come and go. Also, I JUST started this job. What doesn't he get about that? This is like the worst time this could happen besides next weekend when my brother's wedding is. Today was easter so I went to church and was going to go to eat with them but there wasn't time to get back in time for the landlord who was coming over and to also buy Bekka, the fiance, something for her shower tonight. That's another thing. I'm supposed to go to this shower at 6pm but go a half hour earlier to get our shirts fixed by the tailor.
Let me rant briefly on our outfits for the wedding next week. I think my brother and his fiance thought the three of his sisters should be in the wedding because her three sisters are in the wedding and also, he wasn't sure if there were going to be any male friends in the wedding. I just found out there are three of them. So... Before the guys had agreed to be in the wedding, she decided his three sisters would represent the "guys" and have white and black like a tux. Sounds bad but then she said it would be black skirts (50's style) and white blouses. Her sisters will wear emerald green and black lace dresses. The blouses are made out of really gross dirty-looking white material which everything sticks to. Ahhhh. Why? Now there are three guys and her 3 sisters... why do we have to look stupid and casual (oh there are green cumberbund-type belts...) if there's no point?? Is it for us? It certainly can't because they feel strongly about it, I think they just thought they should do it. Then we find out no one will stand up in the wedding anyway... So... wtf?? It's just for the procession? Or the pictures? In that case I oh so wish I could look cute. Oh well. I think krista and I have decided we're definitely bringing clothes to change into at the reception which will be later that night and should be fun.
Unfortunately zy will miss it as he's away for work but it'll be great to hang out with Krista even if it's just for 2 days.
Work is good so far and I'm already getting involved in things so that's exciting but scary because there is so much to be responsible for... If I forget something things could really be screwed up. I will mostly be planning medical procedures, doing the book keeping, and thinking of how we can raise donations so that more children can get the medical treatment they need. Anyway, it's going to be a challenge but hopefully I start getting ideas and feeling more confident about this work. We'll be visiting the foster homes the next two weeks so we'll meet all of the directors so that will be good.
I'm sitting here typing while the last handyman and the landlord are standing here and talking. They're waiting for the guy's colleague to come over for some reason. I should probably be talking to them but I'm so over this. It's his problem, his shitty house. He probably bought the apartment for cheap because it's old and who knows the work that went into setting up the pipes. Maybe someone skimped and did a cheap and bad job? Who knows. It's not my problem. I'll move out if he wants to give me back my $850 deposit (two months because I signed for two years).
Arrgg. My head hurts. Not in the mood to go to this shower tonight.
